<p>During the past several days I have felt so much stress, anger and frustration because my 25 year old son is a bank teller who had a gun pointed inches from his face during a local bank robbery. </p>
<p>Needless to say, my son has been going through a lot of uncomfortable feelings&#8230;..one of which is anger. I believe it is victim&#8217;s anger.  I think he is starting to feel a little better and will heal in time.  Everyone in town has been asking him questions. Hopefully that will die down soon. Small towns quickly find something new to buzz about. </p>
<p>During the robbery my son was told not to touch the alarm button or he would get his head blown off! He followed directions and kept everyone safe by doing so. I&#8217;m very thankful for that.   I would have been shaking in fear but he was calm on the outside. </p>
<p>My son and another teller were able to give a perfect description of the robber (who was so dumb that he didn&#8217;t cover his face or bring anything to put the money in.) The robber was caught on Friday and is now behind bars&#8230;.thank God!</p>
<p>I had a nightmare the night before the robber was apprehended. In it the robber came to our home to cause trouble for all of us.  I woke my husband up twice wimpering in my sleep. </p>
<p>I wish I could visit that bank robber in jail and express my anger at him because of what he did to my son. I haven&#8217;t felt so much stress for quite some time. Making my son a victim of a crime was a terrible thing, in my opinion. These things shouldn&#8217;t happen to anyone, but it does, and I feel very angry about it. Feeling like a victim doesn&#8217;t feel good at all. You feel helpless and then you feel angry, very angry. </p>
<p>My son is a smart and sensitive person who never in a million years deserved to be treated this way&#8230;..and yet he was. It makes me so mad! It definitely makes my son mad too. It has been difficult to contain my anger, which is why I thought writing about it might help. I&#8217;ve certainly talked about it with friends and relatives and so has my son.  </p>
<p>Talking and writing are my two best therapies when it comes to dealing with negative feelings.   I guess that&#8217;s why my brother David encouraged my writing by having me to submit it here. </p>

<p>The last thing most people who suffer from depression want to do is exercise. The dark hole of depression can make even getting out of bed everyday a seemingly impossible task. If you suffer from depression it is imperative that you see your doctor or a therapist first, but don’t be surprised if they prescribe some sort of exercise regimen for you to follow in addition to some of the more normal treatments for depression.</p>
<p>Now as hard as it may seem to get out and start exercising when you are depressed there are some real benefits to be had.</p>
<p>1. Improves your confidence. As you get in better shape you will gain more confidence in yourself and your ability to meet your goals.</p>
<p>2. Increases your self-esteem. Exercise will improve your appearance and your sense of self worth. It will also improve your health and vitality.</p>
<p>3. A distraction. Having a set schedule for your exercise routine, no matter what it is, gives you something to look forward to and can help take your mind off of your problems.</p>
<p>4. Stress relief. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and frustration.</p>
<p>5. Getting out.  Exercising allows you to get out and interact with other people, whether at the gym or just greeting people during your nightly walk.</p>
<p>6. Good coping strategy. Exercise is beneficial to anyone who does it. It is a positive way to deal with depression, anxiety or stress because you will benefit in the long run from it.</p>
<p>An important thing to remember is that as hard as it may seem to start exercising when you are depressed is that if you can get started the benefits will far outweigh any negative thoughts you may have about doing it. And once you get going don’t give up. Once you’ve decided to start exercising make sure you don’t over do it. Because nothing will cause you to loose all interest than a sore and broken body. Here are some general guidelines to consider before you start your exercise program.</p>
<p>1. Talk to your doctor or therapist first. They can help guide you and refer you to someone who can help you set up an exercise program that’s right for you.</p>
<p>2. Set simple goals. Exercise should be fun and make you feel good. Don’t approach it like you are training for the Olympics. Start easy and build from there.</p>
<p>3. Go with what you enjoy.  If you have worked out in the past and enjoyed what you were doing start with that again. For some people just simply going for a walk is enjoyable for them.</p>
<p>4. Find a workout buddy. Exercising with a friend is great for helping lift your mood. It gives you someone to talk to and enjoy your work-out with.</p>
<p>5. Go outside. Getting out in the fresh air and sun is always a good way to improve your mood. Even if you work-out in a gym, take the time to go for a walks a couple of times a week.</p>
<p>6. Don’t let setbacks get you down. Some days you may not be able to get in your exercise. Don’t let that bother you, it happens to everyone. Keep at it and you will see your growth.</p>
<p>Using exercise as a treatment for depression is a growing trend. But you should always consult your doctor or therapist if you are feeling depressed or exhibit the symptoms of depression. Embarking on an exercise program on your own is not the right thing to do. It should be used in conjunction with other treatments such as medication and therapy. Taken together with these other therapies, exercise can be a great way to help battle your depression. </p>

<p>Inside you are a war. Inside you are conflict that causes your mind to combat with your body and emotions. Inside you, often you confront many memories that sometimes are not good. You start to feel hostilities, while battling the draw. What you need is peace. You need to set up a campaign inside you although you may struggle and compete with your emotions, body, and mind. Overall, anxiety and panic is masters and you are the slave. </p>
<p>Oh, but wait. A slave is not all bad. You think of slave and your mind roles back to former days, at what time a person was forced to do something he/she may not wanted to do, but the fact is slaves bring us great rewards. If not for slaves in this time or at the former times, we would have poor crop, since most of the white supremacy was lazy and worked (what they called) less than human beings for little payment.</p>
<p>Slaves are meek. Meekness is a highly commendable quality. The problem is slaves were often dominated by another person, which this person dominating them is the one with panic and anxiety problems, along with many other problems. I am not friendly with racism or prejudice, since I have a passion you cannot understand or relate to, i.e. I strongly oppose. If you think I give a damn about what others think about my strong beliefs, thus I am sorry for you. Think about what I just said. </p>
<p>Slaves work very hard, which is an example we can learn from, as well as move along and work just as hard. We all are slaves and have been for decades. Before black man was slaves, Asians, whites, Jews and the like were all slaves. Today we are slaves and this is exactly what I am trying to point out to you, i.e. you have to be a slave to succeed in life.</p>
<p>Masters are prefixes or titles someone placed on self. Masters exist today, since we have bosses, which are the man showing authority over another person, thus making you a slave. We have the government and law, which control us and influences our everyday lives. Most times these masters decide on abstract ideas or forces that push them to control others by using strong influences, misconstrued beliefs and the like.</p>
<p>Nowadays, masters are viewed as someone with skills that teaches others through qualified skills, abilities, perceptions and the like. Now, you can become master or the slave, however, either way you go you are both in the reality of reality. Step inside! </p>
<p>Masters come from leaders. Leaders are people that base their opinions, philosophy, and the like on abstract ideas that influences others, i.e. attracting people to follow them. Victors are people that control, dominate, and defeat others. Leaders, masters, and the like are controlling machines that instigate influences. Now, I don&#8217;t know about you, but I prefer to slave toward success. While my meekness expresses self, I will move others to do better in their life. Thus, as I slave I will become master of me, and an influence stronger than any other master influence to you. This brings us to submissive in nature, and warm at heart. I see my stress, anxiety, and panic leaving do you.</p>
<p>Anyway, if you start to work toward getting rid of the war in you, you will have a fighting chance of eliminating anxiety and panic. Eliminating panic and anxiety means to remove hate, distortions, lies, doubts, fears, and the like while working toward respect.</p>

<p>Everyone has days when they are down, worn out and just not feeling all that happy. </p>
<p>That&#8217;s OK, you need to have days like this, otherwise how would you know when you are happy. You need to have something to contrast your happiness with. What is black without white? </p>
<p>Even though you know that sadness is a part of life, let&#8217;s try to make it a small part of life. </p>
<p>With that said, here are a few tips to help you feel better when you are feeling down in the dumps. They are easy to do, easy to practice every day and they work! </p>
<p>1. Stand up straight, sit up straight. When your body is in alignment your energy can flow and when your energy is flowing freely, you can flow. </p>
<p>2. Smile! Yes, just smile. Easy to do and effective. </p>
<p>3. Repeat positive affirmations. Things like &#8220;I feel good&#8221;, &#8220;Positive energy flows through my body&#8221;, &#8220;I see the good in all&#8221;. </p>
<p>4. Listen to some music that you like. It doesn&#8217;t have to be anything specific, just something you enjoy. Certain types of music work better than others, but experiment and see what works for you. Studies have shown that Classical music and new age music work best. </p>
<p>5. Take some time out for yourself, relax and read a book, do something for yourself. </p>
<p>6. Meditate. Meditation is an excellent habit to develop. It will serve you in all that you do. If you are one who has a hard time sitting still, then try some special meditation CDs that coax your brain into the meditative state. Just search for &#8220;Meditation music&#8221; on Google or Yahoo and explore. </p>
<p>Our outside work is simply a reflection of our inside world. Remember there is no reality just your perception of it. Use this truth to your advantage. Whenever you are sad, realize that it is all in your mind and you do have the power to change your perception. </p>
<p>These tips will lift you up when you are down, but don&#8217;t just use them when you are sad. Try and practice them everyday, make them a habit. You will be surprised at how these simple exercises will keep the rainy days away. </p>
<p>On a final note, if you are in a deep depression that you can&#8217;t seem to shake, please go see a doctor. This is your life and don&#8217;t take any chances. </p>

<p>Panic, anxiety, stress, and fear work in harmony. What initiates one or the other depends on the situation, however generally it starts in this order. Fear, stressors, stress, anxiety, and panic respectively are the order in which we deal with panic and anxiety. What can we do to get rid of panic and anxiety? First, we can learn to understand what it means to us, find its purpose, and start the process of eliminating the problems. </p>
<p>We can start by considering stress. How do you relate and react to stressors that promote stress? Did you know that stress is common and that occurs in our life everyday? Did you know stress could work in your favor? Stress is changes and how we adjust determines the level of stress. </p>
<p>Most people think negative when they consider stress. This is the first problem we want to eliminate. Therefore, you will need to work toward positive thinking to minimize stress, and get rid of anxiety and panic.</p>
<p>Consider death. Death is one of the major causes of stress, which stems from various sources with the top dog being fear. Think, do you have control of death? No, you do not. Do you have the ability to stop death? No, you do not. Do you have the ability to do something now before death occurs, yes? Review an example with me to see how the situation can change in your favor, while death is involved. </p>
<p>If you fear, death is it possible to enhance your health by modifying your lifestyle to live longer. Sure it is. Is it possible you can search for resources that will help you cope with death? Yes, many resources are available. What if a loved one dies? Do you have control? No, but you do have the ability to learn from the death. What caused the death of the loved one? Was it poor health caused from disease? Possibly the loved one died of diabetes. Can you get regular checkups? Could you change your diet to avoid the same disease? What can you do? Thinking often leads to answers, which can point you in a positive direction.</p>
<p>Therefore, the example is, think of someone who died in your family, which you were close to and consider how you dealt with the problem. Now, use your findings to see how you can cope with the stress that resulted from the death.</p>
<p>Some of the other problems that cause stress, which leads to anxiety and panic attacks is injury. Some people fall to injury and pity self for the course of their life, while others find a way to live with the injury. Possibly paralysis has claimed your ability to function as a whole. Can you live with paralysis? Of course, you can and many people have proven this fact. Thus, think positive and consider what you can still accomplish in life, rather than allowing the injury to control you and cause you to panic from overwhelming anxiety.</p>
<p>What are your fears? Are you fears valid? Do your fears protect you or cause you harm? Overall, there are two types of fear with one being a deep respect and the other being a grave hazardous. Are you afraid of heights? Heights were one of my deepest fears that could have destroyed me, since when close to heights; I became overwhelmingly anxious, which lead to grave panic. I would often pass out; blackout and the like while close to heights. I dealt with my fears, facing the fear head on and became the master of my own fear. Now I am in control and fear is not an issue. Can you overcome your fears?</p>

<p>You’ve probably seen the commercials on television talking about the “you” you used to be before depression set in. Such commercials are generally aired by drug companies promoting an anti-depressant. But what these commercials fail to tell you is depression is common, and not everyone who feels down or blue is suffering from depression. You need to know the facts about depression before you and your doctor determine you are indeed suffering from this illness.</p>
<p>That’s right. Depression is a real mental illness that often requires anti-depressants or therapy to relieve symptoms. You can’t fix depression by yourself, and without treatment, you’ll likely face an uphill battle you probably aren’t going to win. More than 18 million people a year-or nine and a half percent of adults in America-are diagnosed with some sort of depressive illness such as depression.</p>
<p>The first thing you need to know are some of the symptoms that are common with depression. Symptoms include: feeling persistently sad or anxious, being overcome by hopelessness or pessimism, loss of interest in things you normally enjoy, having a lack of energy, feeling excessively tired, having difficulty making decisions or concentrating, insomnia, sleeping too much, excessive weight gain, excessive weight loss, irritability, restlessness and thoughts of suicide. If you’ve experienced any, most or all of these symptoms for a period of two weeks or more, you’re likely to be suffering from clinical depression.</p>
<p>What causes depression? In some instances, depression is genetic and is passed from generation to generation while others who suffer from depression will find there is no history of depression in their families. If you tend to have low-self esteem or you generally are pessimistic, you may be prone to depression. Many changes-such as death in the family, illness, financial difficulties and other stressors-can also be the root cause of depression.</p>
<p>Whatever the reason, it’s important to see a doctor to discuss treatment options. Once your doctor diagnoses depression and eliminates any other possible causes, you and he will determine the best treatment option for you. Antidepressants are often the most chosen form of therapy, and it’s important to know-no matter what antidepressant you go on, you must be sure you never just stop taking them. Simply stopping medication can have severe consequences.</p>
<p>If you take an anti-depressant, you may experience any of a series of side effects including dry mouth, constipation, bladder problems, dizziness, sexual problems, headache, nausea, nervousness and insomnia. If the side effects are too severe, seek your doctor’s advice.</p>
<p>The good news is, if you’re suffering from depression, you’re not alone. You can get help. There are people who understand and who can help you and your family learn to make things better. The key is to seek help, and before you know it you’ll be on the path to happier times. </p>

He must also be well informed of the past illnesses and medication prescribed. It is the responsibility of the doctor that he must not make the patient entirely dependant on drugs. <p>But at the end of the day it is up to you to decide whether you want to take these anti- depressant and anti-anxiety pills or not, but you must weigh the pros and cons of these medicines before taking any further steps. You must consult not just your doctor but also your parents, your friends, your spouse and everyone else you know before making a final decision. Above all, you must be totally convinced of your state before going in for any kind of therapy.</p>

<p>While it is arguable that depression is not always preventable, there are many cases, when using the following ideas, will keep you in good spirits &#8211; most of the time.  Unfortunately, we cannot be happy all of the time, but there is something we can do about it.</p>
<p>Working with a variety of clients over the years, I have seen how Yoga and exercise changed, and continue to change, them for the better.  It is a well-known fact that endorphins are produced from a variety of exercise routines, including gentle Hatha Yoga.</p>
<p>Endorphins reduce stress and enhance good moods.  Just that information alone is enough to start an exercise program, but weight control, muscle-tone, circulation, flexibility and a variety of other health benefits, should be an incentive to start a mild exercise program.</p>
<p>If you have been inactive, I suggest a beginner Yoga class with a very mild-mannered Yoga teacher.  Without pushing this any further, let’s look at other options to start, and things to avoid.</p>
<p>Participate in social activities, support groups, senior centers, or local church activities.  The activities could be in your local mosque, temple, or shrine, as well.  There is always an activity that you can find around any religious center.</p>
<p>You could also join a league for golf, tennis, fishing, bowling, bocce, or any other activity where people gather to share a few laughs.  Take competition in stride, and don’t take anything too serious.  </p>
<p>Many social groups also function as support groups.  The collective activity is good for all involved.  Stay away from “alcohol drinking” clubs.  This is not just bars, or nightclubs, but local clubs, who organize for the common good, and then, routinely get together to drink.</p>
<p>There is a conflict here, in that alcohol is a depressant, and if you are prone to depression, this is not a good combination.  On top of that, there are plenty of health problems that accompany alcohol abuse.  </p>
<p>Substance abuse is not a solution to depression, and you won’t find a purpose in life through it.  So, let’s keep it simple and stay away from drinking alcohol &#8211; altogether.  </p>
<p>If your friends and family abuse alcohol, they need counseling, and you will have to look outside your normal circles to get guidance.  You need to surround yourself with positive and energetic people.</p>
<p>Also, don’t hang around your house too much, especially in dark or unlit areas.  Get outside, take a walk, go shopping, get a little sunlight, and if you are in the house all day, open the curtains during daylight hours.  If you have a sunroom to relax in &#8211; that’s good, too.  Lack of sunlight can cause elevated levels of melatonin, which is sometimes called the “sleep hormone.”</p>
<p>Lastly, visit the self-improvement section of your local bookstore.  It is a hidden treasure within itself.  This is a great reason to leave the house.  </p>
<p>Audio books are also good for traveling in your car or listening to in your sunroom.  Pick out books that really captivate your imagination.  If your local bookstore has CD’s, you may want to pick up some relaxing music for your ride home. </p>

However, we should not be afraid of them and whenever these situations arise we must be armed to deal with them in the most effective manner possible. For this, we must first be able to analyse our emotions and accept them as they are. Understanding the emotions can help you to learn to control the emotions without allowing the overwhelming feelings and emotions take control. As the last step, we must try to transfigure all such negative emotions like anxiety and panic into positive ones.</p>
<p>Anxiety has often been connected with worry and both are understood as the same emotion. Nevertheless, this is not true because even though both are forms of fear but anxiety is related more to time and resources constraints whereas worry is a result of an apprehension that something we plan will not work out well.</p>
<p>Anxiety occurs because sometimes we need to complete a tight-string project and we fall short of time. The project is of utmost importance and due to shortage of time or any other contributing factor you will not be able to finish it to perfection or on time. </p>
<p>Often worry also results from the same reasons. Nevertheless, the major difference here that we must understand is that it may not just be a result of lack of resources but may be also because of some problem with your child or spouse or any other personal issue. Worries are a result of our personal attachments with certain beings or things.</p>
<p>All these feelings are absorbed by our mind since childhood. We see the way people react to certain situations and emulate them. While some people behave in appositive manner to situations other don’t. Whichever affects us more determines how we behave to those situations.</p>

<p>4. Try meditation as a solution searching method.</p>
<p>5. Follow a healthy low fat and high vitamin diet.</p>
<p>Following the above-mentioned routine and steps will help you in freeing yourself from negative thoughts and emotions and creating a positive atmosphere around you. Try these positive countermeasures to anxiety whenever it strikes.</p>
<p>1. We must accept that whatever is happening to us has no intention to harm us. We must give whatever we do, our best shot but it is useless to worry about the results. Once you have given it, your best shot there is no reason why you should fail, so why panic.</p>
<p>2. We must have confidence in ourselves. We must tell ourselves that nothing is impossible unto us and that we can face all the difficulties of life without giving up on them.</p>
<p>3. We should never think low about ourselves. Like everyone else, we are all humans and have equal rights to life. We should never worry about what others think about us because at the end of the day you are your best judge.</p>
<p>4. You must remind yourself at all times that life is meant for being lived every moment and not for worrying every moment what the next will bring about.</p>
